Tony Cavallaro
Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking "I love providing hospitality. Our bank is like a house where we want to make people feel welcome. I also rely on creative listening, understanding someone's business enough to get to their true needs and presenting options that they hadn't thought of before coming to me. I know how to ask the right questions to understand needs and objections and handle them for the customer's benefit."
Tony Cavallaro, 51, was a successful car salesman and dealership general manager for Chrysler when he was approached by good friend, Tom Jacobson, to consider a position in business lending. With no banking background but a powerful network of local clients and high credibility in the community, the St. Paul native decided to give it a shot. Within one year as a vice president of business development for Anchor Bank, Tony secured $10 million in new business. During that year he also attended banking school in order to handle all lending transactions from start to finish. He continued a successful career at Anchor for seven years before accepting an ownership stake at Platinum Bank. Then he recruited Tom to join them. "I like the opportunity to make decisions locally for clients and give them an answer immediately or almost immediately. My clients are often in their first business or getting ready to take over the family business and they’re looking for someone who can give them real guidance." Taking a cue from his father, who was a lifelong electrician and would take the family on Sunday drives and point out all of the homes and businesses he had wired, Tony believes in leaving a visible legacy through successful small businesses that have turned a corner thanks to his advice or ability to provide capital. He can discern the true decision maker in a deal, and credits his business background in car sales for his rapport with entrepreneurs. "I'd rather be in a service club working next to someone and see our mutual hard work and integrity and build a relationship from there. That way, we prove ourselves to each other before we do business together." Tony takes pride in getting back to clients within the same day as much as possible, even if it means making calls on his way home. If he could use one word to define his role in commercial lending at Platinum Bank, it would be responsiveness. Experience
